All of us want to predict the future and change it for the better. Personally, I think everything is going to be all right, mind you!? What could happen if… and what should be done to carry out a better way of progress of society, science, life, notably consuming activities like digital video (web TV, streaming video, etc.).
In this case we can’t but mention one of those people who is of great importance in this respect. Vinton Cerf is one of the handful of researchers who helped build the internet in the 1970s, an American computer scientist, a co-founder of the Internet Society and vice-president and Chief Internet Evangelist at Google.
Vint Cerf expresses an anxiety about the internet in an interview with the BBC. “The
biggest hole we have is with internet browsers, because we have too much access to the functionality of the operating system,” he said, explaining that this made it easy to be infected by viruses and “Trojans”, malicious programs that can be used to take control of a computer.
Information storage is not the least of the factors that should be taken into consideration. All kinds of knowledge and information have to be saved. Of course, now we switch our interest to other kinds of data storage like palm computers, disks, usb-flash drives, portable media devices, etc. But we have to take good note of what is better for the next generation. Vint Cerf warns that all the information currently stored on the web could be lost to future generations.
He says: “I don’t know whether 1,000 years from now information that might have been valuable and could have been preserved if it was written on vellum, won’t be preserved because it’s written in bits.”
Daily millions of people watch various kinds of online video and television on the web and traditionally. Why? Where? What sites? Video sharing portals are at top. Among them are YouTube and Google, Revver, MySpace, Dailymotion, etc. In spite of the fact the quality of this video leaves much to be desired. Nevertheless, mushroom of online video aggregators and video editing technology together is worth much.
By the way, watching video is used for different functions: entertaining, intelligent content, advertising message, etc. By way of the web viewers can download all sorts of ancillary information - from subtitles to ads. Moreover, Google implemented improved inVideo ads. “Google has discovered letting consumers decide what advertising to look at has been a very important part of our business model,” Mr. Cerf said.
Does it mean that all our efforts are unavailing?! Keep in mind, printed copies of information will become the only valuable sources of knowledge. Newspapers, books, booklets, audio and video cassettes, gramophone records, etc. should always stand high in our esteem. Just in case! Save them with care.
