I like the site which is popular among web users and eggheads, I mean Wikipedia. I would be interested to know in what way a new video encyclopedia, Vidipedia.com, will take after.
It’s true to say that Vidipedia is an official branch if Wikipedia. New site posts videos, giving an opportunity to the audience editing any video they like.
What is more, Vidipedia looks like Wikipedia. I hope its covering is the same in some way. At the same time, I feel that we see an origin of a new giant on the web. At least their supplement each other.
Of course, content is poor, but Rome wasn’t built in a day. In Wikipedia’s time its stuff was the same.
Currently users are not allowed to submit video, but it will be possible in few days. The videos are high quality.
Another important consideration is that Wikipedia together with Vidipedia can (but haven’t realized yet) link both textual and video information. It would be nice and useful in every respect. As far as I know Wikipedia’s textual material is filled up with pictures.
Overall, it would seem that video material is a relevant part on the web, especially for Wikipeda. Personally, I think they could invent visual teaching methods, visual demonstration, etc. by means of video. Sure thing this sounds great!
They say: “Vidipedia is the first wiki on the internet to feature unlimited, streaming video as a media option. Users can edit any page or video they like, creating an organized archive of digital media.
Vidipedia is related to Wikipedia in as much as we could not have done this without the Wikimedia Foundation. They created most of code and provided all of the initial material for the site. Apart from that, Vidipedia is an independent project with very few connections to any other third parties.”
