Television: Americans watch TV away from home
Traditional television is the past, but it does not mean that people get rid of TV sets for keeps. Some prefer watching TV at home with family, neveretheless it becomes a habit to tune into TV at bars, work or the gym.
Amercians changed their habits due to the Internet access, possessing and preserving worldwide access to various sources of information via webTV, mobile TV phones (devices), portable music players and other types of new media.
According to the study one-third of U.S. television viewers watch broadcasts outside their home. We see direct link between habits and the introduction of video digital recorders and online broadcasts.
Advertisers have been pressing for more information on how, when and where viewers
watch television. Arbitron study shows more viewing takes place outside the home every week than previously believed.
“There are significantly more away-from-home TV viewers than previously thought,” said Laura Ivey, one of the project leaders for Arbitron. “It’s not all incidental.”
The next groups watched TV away from home at least once per week:
- 64 percent of 12-17 year olds;
- 49 percent of 18-24 year olds;
- about 23 percent of those aged 55 and older.
Of all respondents, more watched TV in someone else’s home than anywhere else, at 25 percent. By comparison, 11 percent watched at a restaurant or bar and 7 percent at work.
Sooner or later TV viewers will change their position and people’s homes will be ibidem where TV on the go.
