Remembering The Past: Hurricane Hugo Video Clips

In the 20th century the USA suffered twice from hurricanes of the 5th category (in 1935 and 1969) and 14 times they were attacked by the hurricanes of the 4th category. An average hurricane leaves damages that are worth 300 million dollars.



The most destructive hurricane was Andrew in 1992, the USA has lost 26.5 billion dollars and 250 thousand people were left homeless. Luckily there were no fatal cases, but all the train crashes video clips aren’t twice that scary as a the hurricane. And the second strongest hurricane was Hugo in 1989: it has left the state of South Carolina very much destroyed. There was a loss of 7 billion dollars, 809 thousand houses were destroyed and – the saddest part of the hurricane – 39 people died. This September it will be 20 years since these terrible events happened.



Hurricanes are typical for the eastern coast of the USA and the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Nowadays scientists have developed quite precise methods of predicting the oncoming hurricane and it give people some time to evacuate from the dangerous area. Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop disasters from happening. It is said that every 7-9 years hurricanes activate in the northern Atlantic, and the scientists are sure that such activity will happen during next 20 or 30 years.



Some Analytics say that storms and hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico are the reason of the growing stock price of oil. Information on the hurricanes also affects the price of such agricultural products as cotton, sugar, wheat, orange juice and coffee.
