Zamzar is a free online file converter, which keeps in touch with new file formats (100+). You can convert an image from one format into another just as well multimedia (vids, music) files. Oh, I’ve nearly forgotten, it also converts docs.

The process of conversion consists of 4 easy steps:

• upload the file (up to 100MB in size) or use a new browser plugin;

• choose the format to convert to;

• enter your e-mail;

• press “convert”.

Zamzar will send you a note when your new file is ready for download.

Zamzar allows you to convert files from YouTube, Google Video, Myspace, Revver, putFile, Break.com, Apple Trailers, Dailymotion, Metacafe, iFilm, Grouper, and Blip.tv. You can convert files to a variety of formats, including 3GP, FLAC, MP4, and AVI.

On of the co-founders of Zamzar is Chris Whyley. It’s based in the UK. Explain this strange name for the site “The name that we chose for the company - “Zamzar” - is based on a character from the German author Franz Kafka’s book “The Metamorphosis”. In the novel Kafka describes the extraordinary story of a young man who is transformed overnight whilst sleeping into a gigantic beetle. The man’s name - Gregor Samsa - was used as the basis for our company name because of its’ powerful association with change & transformation.”
