Online TV: Motorola Research
According to the recent research almost half of Europeans watch online TV via computers and
mobile TV phones. The survey covering the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain found that the French lead Europe in terms of online television consumption with 59% of people.
“Viewers across Europe are no longer satisfied with fitting into schedules dictated by broadcasters and are turning to the choice and flexibility offered by TV over the internet,” said Motorola’s Karl Elliott.
What is more, the research also showed that 45 % of Europeans expect to be making video calls via their home TV’s by 2012.
It’s not a secret that online video and web TV gained popularuty. For example, Joost deserves attention for online video distribution.
BBC is going to start broadcasting TV shows like Doctor Who and EastEnders later this week. These shows will be available online via the BBC’s iPLayer.
The BBC’s iPlayer’s main features:
- iPlayer will allow viewers to catch up on TV programmes for seven days;
- Some TV series can be downloaded and stored for 30 days;
- Viewers will be able to watch shows streamed live over the internet;
- Users will not be able to download programmes from other broadcasters;
- Classical recordings and book-readings are excluded from iPlayer.
I have no doubt that the time when web TV become the only way of watching breaking news, TV shows and spending consuming activities is just around the corner.
