HP launched a new web television service NEXT.TV with late September availability on HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario consumer notebooks. As part of its launch, the NEXT.TV service will initially be available via a web update on HP consumer notebooks shipping with Microsoft Windows Vista since January 2007. The system is powered by Dave Networks.
Except for 50 channels, including MGM, eye.tv, Lazy.tv, and Reality.tv, on Next.tv will also be available content from CBS, Endemol and Freemantle. A broad range of genres (comedy, cartoons, movies, sci-fi, etc.) also does honor. The dawn of the next generation probably means that HP is going to offer its service both for HP and non HP users in the near future. Currently it’s just a bonus for HP amateurs and lucky men.
“Just as the dawn of cable and satellite revolutionized broadcast television, NEXT.TV introduces a new era in television distribution,” said Rex Wong, CEO of DAVE Networks. “Now, HP consumer notebook PC users will be able to experience Internet television from anywhere they have an internet connection, such as their office, the park, corner coffee shop or living room.”
They don’t care about competitors that are on the watch for a precise spot in an increasingly crowded marketplace. High quality stuff will show which web television portal deserves a better place in the bright sun. And it must be noticed an advertising policy. Next.tv has to get round difficulties not to loosing sight of competitors as well as targeting the audience more effectively.
