Google vs. Viacom ad litem

The point I want to make is by what means Viacom has been trying to defame YouTube and Google. Viacom Inc.’s copyright infringement suit against Google Inc. Google argued on Monday in a U.S. federal court filing.

Viacom wants to get more than $ 1 billion lawsuit, but Google does its best to deny all the claims.

“By seeking to make carriers and hosting providers liable for Internet communications, Viacom’s complaint threatens the way hundreds of millions of people legitimately exchange information, news, entertainment and political and artistic expression,” Google said in answer to Viacom’s March 13 suit.

Besides, the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) cuts down web service providers’ responsibility that act quickly to block access to pirated online stuff. The copyright holder notifies a Web site of specific acts of infringement. “The DMCA balances the rights of copyright holders and the need to protect the Internet.

Google and YouTube respect the importance of intellectual property rights, and not only comply with their safe harbor obligations under the DMCA, but go well above and beyond what the law requires,” Google’s legal response states.

The next round will be a case management hearing in the Manhattan court of Judge Louis Stanton on July 27.
