The Best Event Video: Avatar vs The Hurt Locker

All night long directors of both films kept their breath waiting for the results. Somebody was satisfied, while others were definitely not. Avatar of James Cameron won in three categories, and The Hurt Locker took six of them. No doubt, The Hurt Locker is a good and quality film about war, but its victory seems a bit strange.
Some critics suggested their point of view about the issue. Here I have some general factors that might have influenced this year’s results:
•    Social message. People prefer dramas to sci-fi stories. The thing is life stories are closer and more familiar to them than an unknown and fictional world of Pandora. The Americans tend to cheer for the U.S. success war operations in The Hurt Locker rather than watch their defeat in Avatar.
•    Age. The majority of viewers are senior. They have got used to movies that are standard. How can they appreciate the miracle of 3D? Besides, not a single sci-fi film has resulted the best according to the Academy.
•    Completely New. Avatar was a shock for most people who have not seen anything like this in their life. There were several similar precedents in Academy history. Innovations, 3D, new technique – that is not for Oscar.
•    Personal Affection. We could see during the event that voters are inclined to obey blindly their feelings. They have an idol and follow his each step exclaiming how perfect he or she is. And no matter what in reality is. The same happened on the red carpet this year. Just remember the cases of Meryl Strip or George Clooney. And James Cameron, on the contrary, was creamed. What should we love him for?
Well, for this or that reason the best film of these days was beaten by a standard one. Is it fair?

Blockbuster Video New Release: Shutter Island

The industry of filmmaking does not stop surprising fans of good movie by a great number of new releases lately. One of the latest ones presented in Blockbuster rental stores is Shutter Island.
The film Shutter Island was released in February, 2010. The plot is based on the novel of the same name written by Dennis Lehane. The work on the film began in March, 2008 and finished at the end of 2009. At first, the movie was supposed to be released earlier, but the work took longer than expected. Shutter Island is directed by a world famous director Martin Scorsese.
The story goes about Chuck Aule and Teddy Daniels (played by Mark Ruffalo and Leonardo DiCaprio respectively) who team up to find a criminally insane patient who has escaped to an island off the coasts of Massachusetts where he was kept. During their investigation they face a web of lies and deceptions, and even nature happenings. In the end the things turn upside down when it becomes clear that Teddy is also a mental patient kept in the hospital for several years because of killing his wife. A so called investigation was nothing more than a role play invented by doctors so as to help him live out delusional fantasy and return to the reality.

The first night of the Shutter Island took place as a part of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival on 13th February, 2010. The film critics spot aesthetic taste and intellectual plot. The film appeals the audience by exciting puzzles but does not involve emotionally. Actually, there are diverse opinions on the Shutter Island, but anyway the overwhelming majority of them are positive.
About other novelties in the world of filmmaking you will find out in New Movie Rentals at BlockBuster Video. Have a good time!

The Best Opening Ceremony Olympics

Hi, there. Sometimes I wonder what can surprise you. We have talked so much about funny, dangerous or shocking moments, we remembered outstanding people (let’s take Jeff Baxter video clips). And finally I realized – there are lots of those who have not seen video opening ceremony Olympics. Let’s do it.It is said in China that number 8 brings happiness and has magic power. So the 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony started at 8.00 pm on August 8, 2008, and was expected to “blow up” the stadium.

The ceremony was opened by modern drum sequence including 2008 drummers with glowing drumsticks. They were followed by another inimitable invention of Chinese designers and engineers, a chain of 29 fireworks in the shape of footprints. Each footprint represented each one of the 29 Olympiads. As a rule such an awesome action complete a performance but China proved to be an exception. So immediately after magnificent trail of fireworks in the midair appeared twenty “fairies” flying next to Olympics rings of giant dimensions.

Not less captivating was appearance of 56 children that represented 56 different ethnic groups of contemporary China. It causes huge interest that the girl heading the parade was seen singing Ode to the Motherland, while the song was in reality performed by another girl. From the very beginning, the ceremony was entangled in rumors and accidents. For example, the SBS channel filmed rehearsals secretly and leaked some of it, which is prohibited by law. Or, let’s remember scandal about computer simulated fireworks. In the Internet appeared titles going that it was a fake and we were fooled. Well, in my opinion, we got a breathtaking show, and the way it was made is not our business. If it was not made in a traditional way, it testifies Chinese engineers’ imagination and qualification, which did their best to impress spectators.

Remembering the Best: Fiddler on the Roof

On August 30, 2009 closes ‘Fiddler on the Roof’: The Farewell Tour. It will take place in Portland, Oregon. It has only left for classics lovers to wait for another chance to see the favorite musical, songs and actors.
The most popular Broadway musical of all times and nations opened on September 22, 1964 at the Imperial Theatre. Its popularity was shocking. The next day after the opening night it became clear that the musical would come into history. The best testimony to it is 3242 performances for 8 years and 9 months and 9 Tony Awards received in 1965.
Initially, Fiddler on The Roof was entitled Tevye. The reason is the story is based on Tevye and his Dauhters (or Tevye the Milkman) tale.
Fiddler on the Roof was screened as early as 1971 by Norman Jewison. It turned out to be a real success. The film came into top 10 best films-musicals along with “Mary Poppins”, “My Fair Lady” and “West Side Story”. The film received 3 Oscars: the best screen version, the best sound and music; it received a Golden Globe as the best film (comedy or musical) as well.
Local color and singularity of the Jewish mentality, peculiar humor and almost natural optimism of the nation which had got stronger after numerous wanderings all over the world and constant prosecutions, tragicomic emotions of the protagonist observing the collapse of the world — all of it agitates hearts and souls of people throughout many years.
The film is serious and philosophical, despite an abundance of cheerful moments which help to restrain tears.
There are lots of interesting facts connected with the world-known musical. For example, on May 26, 2008 TIME magazine reported that the Fiddler on the Roof became the 7th most frequently performed musical by U.S. high schools.
Nowadays, you can hardly find something as striking, charming and unique as Fiddler on the Roof. So it is extremely important to appreciate such masterpieces and not to forget about them.
