Little Known Ways to Find Free Wallpapers for My PC: TV Shows

Saturday, 29.03.2008

Are you addicted to TV shows like Lost, Prison Break, Smallville, House, Dexter, Heroes, South Park and very many others? I am! Sometimes it’s hard to imagine the life without my favorite heroes being at work place or at home. Set a reminder for yourself and sarcastic House, handsome Michael Scofield and wise commander Adama will always be in a plain view.

By the way, there’s no considerable difference between television shows, seasons and series. Such stuff usually consists of 22-24 episodes with a hiatus during the holidays. This information should be taken into consideration while searching wallpapers for your pc related to one or another movie, animated cartoon and show and given in a string search.

How to go through the time meant for pending next episodes and series? Wait and see! If I want to slow down breathless expectation at least for a short period of time, I’m just looking for free wallpapers for my PC. There’re loads of images and photos (aka wallpapers) with characters of TV shows and movies.

The most important point, however, is how to choose a useful source. Surfing the web for a good hour, I come across different heaps of crap, rubbish and broken links. At the same time, I found out where to get free wallpapers for my PC. Let me give you a piece of advice to follow my finds.

Let me introduce the top five of my lost-and-found desk take the following web-sites catered for TV series funs and buffs.

1. Fanpop.com. I really thank those guys, who created such a wailing data warehouse offering wallpapers, avatars, picks galleries and featured video. I’ve already put House wallpaper on my desktop. Special thanks to uploaders!
2. Vmegasite.net. You know why I chose TVmegasite.net? The web-site contains about twenty television series like 24, Jericho, Heroes, Prison Break, etc. What else? One can download the wallpaper that matches his screen size (800 x 600, 1024×768 and 1280×1024).

3. 100freewallpapers.com has at its service a number of popelar classical TV shows just in 800×600 or 640×480 resolutions.

4. tvserieswallpapers.com is also a great storage of weird and wonderful wallpapers from TV shows and movies.

5. tvserieswallpapers.com is not very large gallery. I believe they are in process of gathering of wallpapers.

Sure thing, I didn’t include the fan-sites devoted only the one TV Show. I tried to find complex sources of information. As a result, it was quite a hard task to realize.

Watch Free Videos Online: YouTube Videos in High-Quality

Saturday, 22.03.2008

In spite of the fact that well-known online video-sharing service is under a ban in a number of countries, others condemn their actions and bring an action against the owners, it keeps on gaining its popularity. Anyway, amateurs and just addicted to video guys enable to watch free videos online owing to YouTube, Dailymotion, Revver, Google, iMovie, etc.

Since YouTube came into existence, folks used to download and upload short-length films of poor quality. On the one hand, it’s an opportunity to watch and save free videos if one has a slow traffic speed (dial-up connection), and scanty storage capacity. There are a great many the like services online, but YouTube was bought by Google and it has played its part.

But there’re some cons: video quality can be a critical moment. If you adore watching free videos online via your mobile, Apple iPhone, iPod, Nintendo Wii, cameras, etc., it doesn’t concern you.

As for me, any movie is a treat for the eye on wide big screens accompanied proper sound. YouTube and Google offer full length movies. Next in turn is to make the video quality better. HDTV! And what about Blu-ray?

The official YouTube blog:”You may have noticed that we’re now giving you the option of watching some YouTube videos in higher quality. We’re making these streams available on certain videos, based upon the source file uploaded to us, and over time you’ll find a greater percentage of the library is available to view in higher quality. This feature applies to all eligible videos uploaded from the YouTube community, and is not restricted to partner content, so everyone can enjoy this upgrade.

How do you watch higher quality videos? On your Account page you’re now able to choose “always show me higher quality when available” or “never show me higher quality.” We suggest you select “always show me…” only if you have a fast Internet connection, otherwise you might find that videos don’t play as quickly or smoothly as you’re used to. Higher quality videos also have a link right below the video player which will allow you to select between the normal or higher quality settings.”

Keep in mind, it takes longer both to upload and download stuff. Bandwidth and storage capacity are of great importance. That’s why most people give preference to “YouTube model”. It’s expected that files size will be limited to 1 GB, and higher-definition videos can’t be longer that 10 minutes in length.

Anyway, relax and use what you have at the moment. Don’t rush things.

Save YouTube Video, or China Blocks it!

Saturday, 22.03.2008

How it is important sometimes to be dead on time and a place. How many times do we become thoughtful and want to give back and change everything?! It’s easier to pull down than to build. Thus, some niggardly people accumulate trifles (without need to use them in the future), the others reckon they’ve got time to do that later.

As the saying goes, never put off till tomorrow what you can do today. It can’t be related to the People’s Republic of China. They always act on their authority violating freedom of speech (I mean mass media). By the way, it was issued a law according to which mass media can’t report on negative and offensive events and accidents. Don’t worry, be happy, Chinese people! Feng shui will help you!

Some years back, namely in 2001, popularity of the Internet made China to sharpen edge with this massive source of information. According to the People’s University of China, unconfirmed and inaccurate information on the web may mislead the Chinese people. Pull the Iron Curtain?

According to Roya Akhavan-Majid, the Chinese Communist party-state implemented the mass media reform in China, because historically analyses of change in mass media systems have tended to draw upon a ‘dissident vs. state’ framework, derived largely from the western historical experience.

Last Sunday China blocked internet users (fellow countrymen) from seeing YouTube.com. What’s holding matters? There were dozens of videos about protests in Tibet uploaded on this video-sharing site. Everything points to the fact that the communist government’s efforts control the media high and low. As compared with such Chinese web-sites as 56.com, youku.com and tudou.com, there were no protest scenes.

“Foreign Web sites run by news organizations and human rights groups are regularly blocked if they carry sensitive information. Operators of China-based online bulletin boards are required to monitor their content and enforce censorship.” (via)

What should we expect from the Chinese government? China banned YouTube, and suddenly remembered the laws it had put in place. It’s now announced that 25 video hosting sites need to be shut down and another 32 will be “punished.”

Yellow-faced nation has taken up the web area (specially e-business directories), being agents and middlemen. Repulses the USA?

Watch the Simpsons Online

Sunday, 16.03.2008

“I like my beer cold, my TV loud and my homosexuals flaming.” (Homer Simpson)

Having watched all the episodes of Futurama one more time, I’m going to watch the Simsons online once again, including the episodes released last summer. I can’t do anything with myself. Can’t deny myself nothing. It’s a pity, but the 19th season hasn’t been in the can yet.

You know what makes me watch the Simpsons? Lovely characters (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, as well as a virtual cast of thousands) and a scene of an action (Springfield). Frankly speaking, it’s one of my favorite animated TV shows. The author created this series with all his heart and soul.

I will never be tired of saying thanks to Matthew Abram Groening, an American cartoonist and television producer, for birth of the Simpsons and co-creation of Futurama. According to Groening, the animator decided to create something new and came up with a cartoon family, the Simpsons and named the members after his own family, except Bart, which was an anagram of the word brat.

So, how to watch the Simpsons? Sure thing nobody forbid you to order them on DVD or Blu-Ray. As for me, I set myself the task of watching the Simpsons online, that’s why I look over the sites offering such an opportunity.

  • I suppose WatchTheSimpsonsOnline.com is one of the best sites for the Simpsons fans. Just make a donation to further enjoy the service.
  • It’s the best thing on! Watchtvsitcoms.com is part of top 5 sites to check out and watch the Simpsons online episodes for free!
  • I can’t but agree that sidereel.com deserves to be a really loved website for those buffs who are eager to download and watch the Simpsons online
  • Simpsonsmovie.com offers to order on DVD or Blu-ray as well as download the Simpsons to your sesktop. The site supports various languages and caters for viewership all across the world.
  • At first sight the name of the portal Watchthesimpsonsonline.net sounds promising, but there you can find just some of seasons. So-so.

Watch Card Games in Movies (part 2)

Sunday, 09.03.2008

A long time passed since I offered you to watch the best card games movies that were ever produced in Hollywood, and take part in our poll. According to the poll, there’re no evident leaders on the list. There weren’t any hidden reasons behind that. The only question: do you like watching card games in movies or not?

Have you already asked yourself, “How many movies concerning card games can you name?” It doesn’t matter, and I can’t insist on taking a personal interest in poker movies if you opt for other consuming activities. As for me, movies should make appeal to emotional side of human beings.

So, our poll shows that the best card game movies are The Cooler, Maverick, The Cincinnati Kid, The Madison Kid and California Split. The mentioned movies shared the first place. I just have to take your participation for granted.

Hollywood often uses gambling, but rarely shows realistic card playing. Poker playing has always been a popular theme in the American film industry. All movies display big bets and winnings with great hands. Writers and producers have an intention to attract and delight by arousing interest to this kind of activity.

In my poor opinion, Hollywood should shoot a TV show devoted to gambling. Sure thing the main character is talented and possesses out of the common abilities to play card games professionally. He proves himself every time playing in the high-stakes matches. He creates his own system and has to keep a secret from others.

By the way, main heroes and characters put up a show how they’re skilled at gambling. I picked up a number of movies devoted to the best card playing scenes. I tried to sort out those ones that related to gambling one way or another. Even if some of the Hollywood films are not very good and display poker in a ridiculous manner, watching card games on the big screen is great fun (Most of these movies can be ordered via Amazon.com and imdb.com).

  • Sunset Trail (1939). “There’s no braver man than a scared one when he’s cornered.” One of the classical western poker movies, where we meet well-known Hapolang Cassidy (as William Boyd). This cowboy really was a very talented chap. By the way Francis Nevins devoted his book to this out of the common person, called The Films of Hapolang Cassidy. An unconquerable bumpkin is good at pistols and fists as well as hole cards.

  • The Gambler (1980). You’ve got to know when to hold’em, know when to fold’em, know when to walk away, and know when to run.” Brady Hawkes, The Gambler, receives a letter from his son indicating he needs help. This sends Brady to the rescue. Along the way Brady meets up with Billy Montana, a young man who thinks he knows everything about playing cards. Brady teaches Billy a few lessons along the way and they end up forming a strong friendship and team up together.

  • Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (1998). “Er, bad breath, colorful language, feather duster… what do you think they’re gonna be armed with? Guns, you tit!” Guy Ritchie is one of my favorite writers and directors. It’s no coincidence that this dynamic film turned out to be part of the list. Surely, the movie is not about poker, but about the high-stakes underground game of three card brag that puts the whole film in the movie.

  • A Big Hand for the Little Lady (1966). The biggest high-stakes game in the West draws the attention of a man named Meredity (as Henry Fonda), who stakes his whole family fortune to get into the game. Great cast elevates film based on TV version of story. A homesteader and reformed gambler passing through town learns of the annual high-stakes poker match about to take place. He recklessly throws the family fortune into the pot but soon must turn over his chair to his wife who manages quite well to handle the cardsharps across the table.

  • Lucky You (2007). “Change your game. Change your life.” A hotshot poker player tries to win a tournament in Vegas, but is fighting a losing battle with his personal problems. Everybody who enjoys the television popularity of poker will like this film due to the doses of the game itself and a WSOP pro.

  • Shade (2003-2004). Shade is set in the world of poker hustlers working the clubs and martini bars of Los Angeles. The tale unfolds as a group of hustlers encounter “The Dean” and pull off a successful sting that results in their pursuit by a vengeful gangster. Fake poker movie. Why? It’s not about poker, but they say it’s NL Hold’em. Anyway, the movie worth a watch if you don’t play poker and don’t know rules. Great actors should learn how to play poker in order to play their parts appropriately.

  • Four Dogs Playing Poker (2000). A group of best friends and amateur thieves steal a valuable statuette for a ruthless black market art dealer. After the thieves botch the delivery of the objet d’art, the art dealer forces them to ‘find’ $1 million by the end of the week or face certain death. The desperate friends concoct a plan whereby each of them takes out a $1 million life insurance policy on themselves. Consequently, if one of the friends die, the others will collect on the policy and pay off the dangerous art dealer. The thieves then enter into a lethal lottery to choose who will be the victim and who will be the killer.

  • Poker Alice (1987). The Wild West is about to get wilder! Alice Moffit, ‘Poker Alice’, has been disowned by her Boston family because of her incurable penchant for gambling. She is travelling the West with her cousin, John, when she wins a house in a poker game on a train. The ‘house’ turns out to be a bordello, which she decides to run until she can sell it. She falls for a bounty hunter, Jeremy Collins, who is about to settle down in California. Marrying him would mean ending the life-long relationship between the two cousins.

  • Città gioca d’azzardo, La (1975) (aka Gambling City). A professional gambler goes to work for a crime syndicate, and becomes a favorite of the organization’s boss because he makes them so much money. However, he falls in love with the reluctant mistress of the boss’ son, who finds out about it and tries to turn his father against the gambler in order to have him killed.

  • California Split (1974). A down on his luck gambler (George Seagal) links up with free spirit Elliot Gould at first to have some fun on, but then gets into debt when Gould takes an unscheduled trip to Tijuana. As a final act of desperation, he pawns most of his possessions and goes to Reno for the poker game of a lifetime. A film set mainly in casinos and races, as the two win and lose (but mainly win), get robbed, and get blind drunk.

Make your selection! An appropriate poker related movie should assist everybody to perfec his skills. Find out more about those card-playing movies that you still didn’t watch. Keep an eye open for the next poker movie selection.
